Crit-moves

a more efficient way to critique

CritMoves is a classroom based conversational tool that is meant to get students more engaged during critiques. Instructors have the capability to select prompts that best fit their current crit needs. Using their phones, students can then reference these prompts to guide them towards a more constructive and productive peer critique. Here’s to no more silent classrooms!

BRANDING

  • Crit Moves runs using two different interfaces on desktop and mobile. Faculty and Administrators use the desktop version and students use the mobile version. They both are web-based applications that can be accessed through Temple’s log-in portal. Eventually, the hope is that any school can connect Crit Moves to their database and use it to tailor their own critiques.

  • Although admin and faculty both use the desktop version of Crit Moves; each role has different capabilities and permissions. Administrators get to add and/or edit prompts and faculty members. They are also in charge of managing prompt categories and semesters/terms (summer 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023, etc).

Faculty works less with the back end of the site and more with curating their personal dashboard. This includes adding and editing their courses. Within each course, they add their students and choose what prompts they want to use. These can be within all one category or multiple.

  • Faculty: Once faculty finish curating their prompt bank, for each class, they can either save it for later or begin the critique. When “Begin Critique” is selected the prompts will be randomly propagated to each student’s phone. (as seen below)

Student: Students begin by logging in through the Temple student login. From there they select the term and the course. They are then either put in a waiting room (if the professor has yet to begin the critique) or directed straight to the prompt page.
